Arkus: The Fund I Couldn’t Find, So I Built It

My marketing manager asked me to write about what Arkus is. Not what it does, but what it actually is.

And he reminded me that Arkus exists because of me.

So, here’s the story.

I’m a thirty-something COO who couldn’t find an investment that fit my life. I work big hours, I’ve got a mortgage and bills, and, like most people, I just want financial security without having to gamble on crypto or spend my nights glued to the share market. Bank savings rates felt pointless. Riskier options felt reckless. Nothing sat right.

When I joined GPS, I discovered registered first mortgages. Here was an investment that was stable, consistent, and basically “set and forget.” The returns were solid, the risk was lower.* But the entry hurdles were high, and I couldn’t get in. I was close, but shut out.

That frustration lit the spark for Arkus.

Over time, the idea sharpened as I spoke to other investors who felt the same way, and as I watched competitors ignore younger Australians. Why should you need $10,000 just to start investing? Why should people who grew up with the GFC and COVID feel like investing is only for the wealthy?

And personally, I didn’t want investments that demanded constant attention. I want to live my life, shop a sale, go out with friends, and have fun. I don’t want to babysit my money. I want it working in the background while I get on with everything else.

So, I designed Arkus, pitched it to the GPS board and they backed it.

Arkus was built to open the door. It’s a fund for people like me: people who work hard, save carefully, but want more than a bank account that crawls along.
